Toddlers

What a fun age this is!! Your child's personality is really starting to emerge. Toddlers are amazing with their ability to learn and wonder at the world. Take time to wonder with them. This age will pass so quickly, you really don't want to miss a minute. Behaviorally, many toddlers can be a challenge at times. We are more than happy to help with these concerns at well checks (or a separate visit if the concerns are urgent). A good resource is www.healthychildren.org and search toddler behavior.

If your child has a fever alone or a fever accompanied by mild symptoms, treat the fever with acetaminophen (Tylenol) and/or ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) and call us the following business day. If this fever occurs during flu season (typically November to March), we recommend that your child is seen within 24 hours to evaluate for flu.

If your child has a fever over 105, take him/her to the ER.

**Many questions about feeding and behavior arise during this time in your child's life. Dr. Julie encourages you to write these down so they can be addressed at the next well check. If your questions can't wait until the next well check, please call the office to schedule an appointment.

It is very common for this age child to have a runny and/or stuffy nose. Initial management includes: hydrating your child with clear fluids (water, Pedialyte, watered down Gatorade or juice); elevating the head of the bed; running a humidifier next to your child's bed; and using Vick's rub on the chest. Sometimes a steamy shower room can help if your child's nose is really stuffy. If your child is fever free and still playful, try these home remedies first. If the child has other worrisome symptoms (cough, ear pulling, etc), please make an appointment on the following business day.
